Branding for high-end retail
The project.
Wiltshire based luxury retailer Hen House required a distinctive brand identity to help their new business make a splash in their local market.
Hen House required a brand that could be applied to a wide-range of retail items
The brief.
I was approached by the owners of Hen House to develop a brand that could communicate their key messages of luxury and hand-crafted quality, as well as provide their shop in Devizes with a distinctive style of its own.
A hand-drawn illustration helped emphasise the brand message of hand-crafted quality
Metallic copper foiling and a distinctive green colour were used across the brand materials
Outcomes.
Starting with a mood-board, I worked with the client to ensure we were agreed on the look and feel that suited their vision for the business and shop.
With the understanding agreed, I created a hand-drawn hen illustration for the logo, helping to emphasise the core message of hand-crafted quality. This was refined further, with the use of metallic copper foiling on printed materials and the use of premium, textured paper stocks.
The choice of a clean, contemporary typeface completed the logotype and an eye-catching, distinctive green colour was used for backgrounds, helping to round off the identity and provide the core elements of the shop’s visual branding.
Beyond Hen House’s striking exterior, the identity was used across a wide range of items, including signage, egg-shaped price tags, clothing labels and the signature green Hen House bag, which became a regular sight for local shoppers.
Egg-shaped labels were designed to carry prices and other product information
The distinctive green colour was used on the reverse of business cards, which were printed on a textured paper stock
Metallic foiling gave a premium finish
Like what you’ve seen?
This was a really enjoyable project, helped by investing time in ensuring that the client and I were working from the same understanding and vision for what Hen House could become, and who their target customers were.
